Hi fellas

I’m planning to paint my 19 foot bay boat for duck hunting.

I’m thinking of going with a dark gray brightside interlux so that I can easily touch it up. I am also going to prime it with interlux.

I want to make sure I put in good prep work on the hull before painting. What steps should I take to ensure I prep the existing gel coat for the paint to get the best adhesion?

Degrease and light sand with 120?

What specific products should I use to degrease and prep the hull?

Thanks fellas

There used to be a paint product exactly for that purpose. It was dull dead grass or something like that, made by Pettit. It was likely enamel as polyurethane paint wasn't invented way back them.

As for Brightside, the label will instruct that no primer is needed over gel coat in good condition. Just abrade with 80 grit and remove sanding residue.
