I have a 1985 Ray craft Bass boat I was going to wet sand it and buff it out but I would like to change the color and since I’m going to be sanding it any way I’m considering to just go ahead and paint the boat, but I have no experience in painting a boat can anyone give any info on what steps to take and what products to use. I know I will have to sand it but do I treat it like a car and wipe it down with wax and grease remover and then a sticky cloth any help is appriciated.

Thanks Ricky

Re: Painting?

All of the better boat paint manufactures have prep instruction available. They include cleaning, sanding and primers etc.

Browse through here and you will get an idea of what you may be getting into.

pbailey

http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/

Re: Painting?

I painted the area above the rubrail and an area below the water line on my boat with automotive acrylic enamel w/hardener. Got a great shine and I'm confident it will hold up just fine.

I haven't got the hang of posting pics or I'd post some.
