I think Israel could take care of this problem if they stopped worrying about world opinion. Now that the terrorists are in control of a country I guess they (Israel) could just take out the country.

Be careful what you wish for.<br /><br />I think the neo-con's view that democracy leads to peace is just yet more wishful thinking.<br /><br />In Iran, democracy got us a leader that wants to destroy Israel and aquire nukes. In Iraq, we got the shiites in that want to align themselves with Iran.<br /><br />And now we get terrorists elected in Palestine, and we are kind of stuck with it.<br /><br />You cannot promote democracy in good faith if you are not willing to accept the voice of the people.<br /><br />We have a fundamental problem in the mid-east, and contrary to what the neocons suggest, democracy does not seem to fix it.

The problem in the middle east is not democracy or a lack there of. The problem anywhere is a morality that allows and even promotes evil. I don't care if you are a neo-con, a flaming liberal, just some guy, or a representative of any political movement (legitimate or otherwise), if you can't label something or someone as evil you are part of the problem.<br /><br />Take Tookie Williams for example, evil through and through, yet there are "leaders" here that would not refer to him as evil. I see this the same way. Hamas promotes and perpetrates evil. Plain and simple.<br /><br />Thanks KIZ for using that evil word . . . evil. It seems the use of that word immediately starts some huffin' and puffin'. "Who is he to say that something is evil?" I ask "who are you NOT to call something evil?" Identify it immediately and often.

The dreams and aspirations democracy promises, which is advocated by many may not be the ultimate form of government in countries where theological adherence to their perspective religions takes precedence politically.<br />In my opinion this is such in the case of the Palestinians.<br />The Palestinian Authority was corrupt and rotten to the core, it is being said that The HAMAS is not,therefore the education system and public services will improve dramatically, afterall they were the ones providing those services all along with limited and indirect funding.<br />My take on all of this is, and i do hope that i'm totally wrong, the palestinan territories will very soon fall into extreme civil unrest, with that many guns and various weaponary in the hands of those who stand to gain and those who stand to lose, (Power corrupts but absolute power corrupts absolutely) a civilwar is the most likely outcome. The Palestians have never ever missed a chance to make their lives more miserable than it already is.

The alternative is to do what the French recently did in Algeria when the radical fundamentalists were about to take over due to winning the elections.

"RF", wanting something & dictating are two different things......The U.S. seems to be very good at both......I say attack now while they are in disarray.....We will get around to it sooner or later....I think that Dubya should roll out some of our some of our chemical weopons stockpile & fumigate the entire Middle East, from Pakistan to the Mediterranian, & be done with it......If there is anyone left, they can form a government.....Let's have our own Jihad! Or the non religious equiveant thereof......I guess I'm tired of all the hand wringing.....Let's get on with WWIII while we still have the advantage, it's coming anyway.......JK

No disagreement there, looking at the big picture, The forces of moderation in Israel have nailed it by trying to separate themselves from the occupied territories, the fear of being outnumbered in their country by radical islamists is a very real one indeed.<br />The radicals have learnt that what they cannot gain through violence they can and will gain through the ballot.<br />Where will Israel be then if such a situation is allowed to occur?<br />All of their military might cannot hold back such a tempest, one only has to take a look at Zimbabwe for the preview.

They will show 2 faces.One will preach peace to the outside world, while the other promotes murder and violence for internal consumption.<br />Social services will improve for those that visit the mosque and send their children to the religious schools.The ones who refuse to do so will rot.<br />Hamas education has nothing to do with learning new or secular things.It is training in religious submission and breeds hatred against anything not exactly the way the teachers preach.<br />This was more a vote against the utterly corrupt PLO than it was a vote for HAMAS.<br />In the early 70s, the then commander of the Gaza strip anti-terror units was Ariel Sharon.In an effort to destroy the mostly secular EL Fatah he promoted a religous movement hoping it would force a split in the palestinian street, making it easier to control.Except he could not control his creation and it became HAMAS.

Rolmops, How time flies, it does not seem that it was that long ago when Prime Minister Begin's Likud administration's attempted to sideline The then PLO in its claim to be the sole representative of all Palestinians, both inside and outside of the occupied territories. this action did indeed lead to the creation of Hamas.<br /><br />Rolmops, I do very well remember that it was Ariel Sharon who initially supplied the wherewithall for the organisation which eventually became Hamas to operate and provide social services in the West Bank and Gaza. <br /><br />You are correct in pointing out how this came about.<br /><br />The once little fish in the aquarium became a Great white shark in the swimming pool.<br /><br />This rather sad situation has begotten so many ironies that in another two thousand years, it may very well become another biblical testament for mankind.<br />The saga continues
