I think I could right a book!!

Anyway, I had time to bring the car into the shop today and put it up on stands, got to looking around and it took all of about 5 seconds to see the problem, I had it figured from the start but had no idea what I would find!!

LubeDude

I thought Id leave it up in the air for awhile!

Ok would you believe that there is a peice of clear plastic tubing between the hard line and the slave cylinder, thats bad enough, but it is about three feet long and runs right along the exhaust! Go figure, no wonder it gets spongy when it gets hot!!!!

Ill put a hardline up to the area of the slave cylinder and then a flexable brake line or a braided line, would look better!! :D

Sorry for leaving you wanting! No im not!!

LubeDude

That is bizarre...Is this something that is stock, or could someone have done this to this particular car? Glad you figured it out...

I may not be as smart as I thought!! (Boy, wouldnt that be a rough one to swallow)?? I talked to Gary Hall From Hall pantera on the phone to day for about an hour! Beleive it or not, that is the stock setup! He claims that isnt the problem and that it is probably the slave cylinder leaking past when it warms up as it is right on the back of the engine, he says they have a habbit of pitting due to not having the fluid changed enough as the cars generally set a lot!! Im going to take it off tomorrow and inspect it!!

When I first posted this I hadnt even seen the car yet but new it had the problem. I had just assumed that it had either been rebuilt or replaced! Oh well, now you see why I have to go over every square inch of it befor I try and put any miles on it!!

LubeDude

I thought I had posted something about those hoses don't last forever. If that is bad, you might want to check the fuel line also. If the master/slave cylinder as leaking past, a tell tail sign of fluid on the floor or undercarriage would point to the problem. Without visable leakage usually tells me it is a hose that has lost its ability to handle the pressure and will just expand instead of appling the pressure to its point.

Glad you found the problem.

SS

Re: Pantera Clutch Problem Found!!

Im back!

Yesterday afternoon I spent the day taking the slave cylider off, disasembling it and looking it over! first off it was full of what looked like mud! I cleaned it real well so I could look inside better and found that it was rusted very slightly so I honed it out a little which cleaned it right up! The seals looked fine and the piston appeared to be SS! Just put the slave back together this morning and will install it this afternoon! I will not get to drive the car today as it is raining out and these cars do not go out in the rain!

Me either, Ill FISH in the rain, but do not ask me to work in it!!

LubeDude

Re: Pantera Clutch Problem Found!!

I have given that some thought, but to do it right you have to take the master cylinder apart too and clean it and flush the line! If I was changing the master I would! Changing to silicone after already using Dot isnt always a good idea! Best if new parts on both ends! Been there, done that!!

Thank though :D

LubeDude

Re: Pantera Clutch Problem Found!!

Drove car for about 10 miles today, Clutch problem seems to be fixed!! will drive farther when weather clears again after fixing a couple of minor thinks. Need to install a PVC system for one thing! and fix a couple of oil leaks I found!

Has a lot of blow by right now, but Im hoping this will subside after it is broken in! Thats it, Il post a new topic on how would you break in a new rebuilt engine, that should bring out some interesting opinions!! :D

LubeDude
