Yes and no Woody. I did the same thing on my sailboat..added some 'halved' cardboard tubes..resin coated the crap outa them..then glassed over. The old school fiberglass guy told me that cardboard is completely compatible with resin/glass and would make it stronger than just fiberglass. After all, it is wood.

But in the long run Yes..they are for stiffeners..you should put them back. Try to bend a few layers of Flat fiberglass..yea ok..now try to bend Rounded fiberglass..Not gonna happen. I liked the cardboard because I could relief slice them up to better match the curve of the hull.

Yes and No???? What's the No????

Well I got my pool noodle from wally world .. Maybe there noodles are better quality then the d/s .. :D
Now I did not put resin on a cut edge ... Maybe that was the difference ...

I was finishing up with sealing some of the ply for the deck....cut a small section of noodle and spread some resin on it...15 minutes later it hadn't melted. Took another piece and dunk it into the resin and laid it over to the side....didn't melt. Problem is the ones at the dollar store are almost 2-1/8 inch in diameter, the original hull stiffeners were about 1-1/2" wide. Gonna have to think about this for awhile, at least till tomorrow morning when I need to start getting it done. May just go with the wood....

Hell I dunno man..I guess if its not saturated with resin then their not as strong. Probably melt too if water gets to em.

Im sure the pool noodle thingy would work too. They just wont be of any use structurally tied with the glass. And..I wonder when and if they get water logged that they would'nt eventually fester into a stew of sludge and toxic typhoid mary mosquito carrying pools of nastiness? Hey..just saying is all..;)

Well the way I look at it is it's no different than any other hollow stringer. Once the Glass has formed if it's thick enuf to carry the load it really doesn't matter if the mold melts away to nothingness.

I wholeheartedly agree. Its just..well..if you used the cardboard correctly they would at least add the structural value. Whereas noodles not so much.

In the end either will hunt just dandy. I just like the CB tubes.

Back to you Daniel. In your first post you had it all ready to go. Looked good. I think you might want to put more than one layer of 1708 over the dowels though. Noodles in there wont give you enough 'floatation' to be a factor..so just use what you want. Looks great!
