The contacts in the voltage regulator (or maybe it's a solenoid) that's attached to the back of a Paris-Rhone alt. are rusted and week. Is is possible to change out this part or do I have to get a new alt.? The coil and shaft, etc. in the alt. look great.

[colour=blue]Yes, it is a part that can be changed out. Search the iboats marine store or google the part # (YL...), you will get many hits from marine stores.

A period and a ) put together without a space will make that emoticon when you are set to use bbCode.
I've learned to put a space between them, and it doesn't do it anymore...... )

Keven, your best bet is to take the alternator to a repair shop and checked out. No since putting in a new regulator if you have other problems with it. Like blown diodes etc. Could cost you another regulator.
