Quick bit of advice on heading north across the ol' Canadian border. Don't bring your guns....or you run a smokin' risk of not getting them back. There have been many incidents of U.S'ers heading north across the border this summer to holiday, fish, boat...whatever....and they brought their guns...and voila' firearms confiscation.
They take this particularly to heart for hand guns...so be warned.
Now, I'm not sure of the process to get them back if at all but make sure you do your homework before you risk your favorites.
Remember once you leave home (U.S)....new rules (not Homeland) apply. Now that said, you stand more chance of being taxed than physically attacked up here...so I wouldn't worry on that front.
The Canadian border guards have stopped profiling for this I think....they go after everyone now. The more normal you look....the more likely they'll hit.
Keep an eye out dudes.

Thanks Bigprairie but we already knew that Canadians were paranoid of US firearm freedom. But then we can't talk about that because it is too controversial.;)

No problem if you declare you have them. They will take them and return on your exit from Canada.

Don't declare them, and they find them, you are likely to lose more than your guns. Your rig will be confiscated (Vehicle, boat, whatever) and you'll play heck getting it back.

Ya really wanna get in trouble crossin' into Canada? Try bringing in canned cat food! We got a major grilling by the border guards on Saturday for bringing back some cheap canned cat food from Wally World. Sheez!

Yup guns a no no unless declared. Handguns? Leave 'em at home. They recommmend locked cases for all other long guns. Other than that not a big deal. Met a feller from Idaho last year who had an antique 200 yr old whaling gun (flint lock) on display in his main cabin. The thing obviously didn't work but he had to remove it and lock it up! He also had a couple of antique berry pistols. He was allowed to keep those once he proved they were disabled.

Unless you're hunting there's not really much use for them up here. Going farther north you'll need 'em to protect yourself from the bears. Biggest risk to life & limb up here is Yup! Taxes! You can claim most of those back though.

No argument from me there Footer! Just different laws and culture.

Just stumbled across this and it's pertinant to the discussion here....

Re: Park your guns

As a gun owner/collector 'up here' my point resided more in letting a few of the possible northbound U.S'ers in on knowing that you might lose you (valuable) guns...rather than the issue of differing gun culture. They are particularly heavy on the hand guns...you would in all likelihood never get those back. The rifles (as long as they are not assault weapons) would probably be no problem.
The incidents of finding machine pistols stashed in the back of the motor home while the family looks on are pretty common. Hence the comment regarding 'fitting a profile'...I don't think there is one.
Again, this wasn't a gun culture comment....maybe Boom can kick that one off.

And let's keep on that track.
