Partial Transom Replacement

Im thinking of replacing only the center-most portion of the transom wood and leaving the original wood on either side. Is this an acceptable way to repair a transom? How do I bond the new piece to the old pieces on either side??

Thanks.

imho, unacceptable, i wouldn't want my motor hanging on a patch. if you do it. tie a rope to the engine.

So if a portion of the wood is not good, then the entire transom must be replaced to preserve original strength??

you got it. why do something twice, do it right the first time, and not worry about pulling your engine out of the drink. it will cost you a lot less than to rebuild a wet engine.

Would you review the pics I posted in my other post - "Pics of transom - rotted or wet"

Do it once, do it right. If you are thinking about doing a transom, it’s going to be a lot of work whether you do just part of it or the whole thing. If you’re in there, just do the whole thing and do it right.
