Hi does anyone have information on getting parts for a 1969 85HP Johnson outboard? The parts I'm looking for is either a complete kit to rebuild the water pump including and or water pump impeller, related gaskests and "O" rings and possibly the pump housing itself also the thermostat p[ossibly as well as I have yet to check that part. It appears to have been and still is a freshwater motor.
Also does anyone know about hooking up a tach for this motor as well. The electrical connections appaer to be there from the motor to the key but have been cut (black and grey wires) and specifically if there is a special tach required so as to not damage the pulse pack?
Also on my motor there appears to be two sensors embedded in the edge of the heads, are these supposed to be sensors for the temperature light and how does one check to see if they're working and if not how to replace them?
I finally got this beast running after some time troubleshooting and then finally taking it to my local marine guy who did some further testing to find out points needed cleaning, re-gapping and installing NGK plugs.
Then also finding a near broken wire from the pulse pack to the points which caused a high resistance when atttempting to throttle engine up.
Now just have to determine overheating problem.
Also information on propeller as it appears I may have a 17 pitch and am told to use either a 15 or a 13 on a 18' fiberlglass. Still sort of working the bugs out of this combination.
Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
