I have a 55HP 1978 Johnson OB. I have sanded and repainted the entire motor using Johnson original paint. After replacing the foam insulation under the cowling, I noticed that both front and back cowling lock assemblies are loose. The rivets are all in place, but some of the round clips, clips that push onto the plastic posts on the actual locks after they are in place, have rusted and broken off.

Anyone know where I can get these round clips? My local Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart and West Marine all have no idea where I can get them. Only the West guy knew what I was talking about (not surprising), but he could offer no help with locating these things.

HeelllllP!

Thanks,
Eric

Eric - Hit the marine junk piles at any marine shop. Your best bet is to get the clips from a junked motor.

Where did you get the original foam for the inside of the cowling?
