Parts help AQ 125 B Please

Repairing a AQ125B, looking for help finding valve shims for the shim buckets, having a hard time finding anyone that carries shims. Does anyone know what steel they are made from and if they are tempard? I have access to make my own. need a little help.:facepalm:

Have you checked with Volvo?
Part number 23 in the diagram is the different thickness shims.

Another piece of handy info; Your engine is a B230 used in Volvo cars from the mid '80's to the mid '90's.

Thanks for the B230 part, but did you check the link? says "thru dealer".
Ordered valves and some other parts two weeks ago when that page had
prices, now "thru dealer" laugh when I ask about parts, say motor has been
OBSOLETED. Funny, many things are "obsolete" but you can still get parts.

It's on the inside so I'll try the other avanue.

Check with another dealer. You can also punch in the part numbers under a google search;

You will be able to find marine dealers out there that still have the shims.

Heres another neat trick I've used, go to a Volvo car dealer, and give them the part numbers of the shims you need. They might be able to get you what you want.

I was able to order a marine head gasket through a Volvo dealership for my 170B. The kicker was, it was close to $80 cheaper than the local marina wanted for the dusty damaged B30 head gasket they probably had on the shelf since 1987.

Marine or auto the shims are the same, I was in the foreign car repair business back when these cars were new and many shops had the shim kits. My bet would be find a shop that has been in business since the 80's and they will be able to supply you with the shims. Or find a current Volvo tech and quiz him, there is probably a dusty old metal box in his shop with the shims.

You have to start getting creative when looking for parts for the older engines. Most of the basic engine parts are the same for the automotive and marine versions. Just need to figure out the engine type and what years and model of cars had them. You may also find that a single source doesn't have all parts so you have to look at many different suppliers. You'll find quite a few OEM as well as aftermarket parts.
