I have a 1997 , 130hp Evinrude tleub the upper motor mount or a least that the only name I can find for it. It connects to the steering link and back down to the motor, the problem is the thing is rusting away and makes me nerves to run the boat in the bay. Is this part replaceable ? or could i take the part to a machine shop or fab shop and have it reworked ?? how hard is it to pull ???

the upper mount is a replaceable part.

Find your engine in the Parts catalog and you will be able to identify the part and get a part number and price for it and check its availability.

Re: Parts rusting away!!!

The steering arm is steel and will be sacrificed when run in salt water if the anodes are not maintained in good order all of the time. The stern bracket anode, gearcase anode and the anode on the propshaft bearing carrier should be adequate when properly maintained.

Note that if the anodes turn white, they are no longer working.

Generally, the rust on the steering arms looks worse than it really is.

as ezeke the steering arm will take alot before its useless. But they do rust to that useless point.Usually the part that swings back toward the eng.will diminish in sizt and become very weak, its the part between the round inner tub part and the part the bolt slides through.Try and compare to a known one to be good. But againt it takes alot and I never changed a broken one, just changed them ,in case.
