I have not seen any 16" tires with an ST rating. They are always LT.

Trailer tires will be your best choice. I can't count the times my friends have had trouble using car tires on a trailer. The sidewall on a car tire is not designed to be pulled sideways like the tires on a tandem axle trailer's tires are subjected to. Three weeks ago on a offroading trip one of my friends had two flats on car tires. Both tires were nearly new.

Ahhh...interesting...no wonder we couldn't seem to get our experiences to jibe. Well, if this was a bar I'd buy you a beer...

There are 16" ST tires made. I've never seen one in person. I'm such a big fan of Michelin XPS tires that it's the only tire I'll put on a trailer with 16" wheels.

16.5" and bigger tires have no distinction, they are all position tires.

My horse trailer has 15" tires and it came with LT tires on it so go figure. They're only 2 years old so I'm not replacing them real soon.
