Path of plug wires on 3 hp '62 Evinrude ?

Do the spark plug wires follow the natural direction from the coil to the plugs or does the lower cylinder wire make a 180 degree turn from the coil terminal? Also do both wires get tucked under the retainer clips? I've got mine running in a circular direction around the armature but only one wire fits under the throttle control and retainer clips. I'm also threading the two wires through the eye of a large spring just before the boot ends. Is this correct? Thank you.

Thanks for those links. I have followed Tom's procedure but the details for my question are not included. Nobody seems to go into any detail about threading the plug wires correctly. When I removed my old ones, one wire took a 180 degree turn coming out of the coil. This is counter intuative.

Here's a pic of a 15hp - should be similar for your motor. More like a 90 degree bend.

Lindy's picture is correct for your 3hp. The longer wire is the bottom cylinder.

Front coil services number one cylinder. Rear coil services number two.

Perfect. Thank you everyone. It even shows the collar (top left corner) that I've heard about and don't have. Is it secured to one of the cyl. head screws? Can I get by without that retainer? Maybe a plastic cable tie? Thank you very much forum.
