Pawl on recoil starter will not swing out and engage flywheel

Pull starter on 1960s 18hp.... its the single pawl Ease-O-Matic.

When you pull the rope, the pawl is motionless. No movement at all. I inspected the installation and it matches the photos & diagrams.

The recoil mechanism works fine. Rope retracts as it should.

Any ideas? Need to be greased? Too much grease? Springs/clips no good and need replacement?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like to much grease on the friction spring.

Fixed this by removing cord, adding several more turns of tension and reinstalling the rope.
