Low lifers are all over the place. Why don't they get a job to make money, instead of trying to scam people out of the hard earned money they worked for.

Miss the olden day's of John Wayne. Who said take em out in the street and shoot them like the dogs that they are.

Look at that guy who stole 50 billion dollars. Charities, and older peoples life savings gone.

Sorry Tash if you want to edit this please do. I don't like thieves never did.

I have to agree with the chief. I get these things from time to time, paypay and bank accounts, they usuall go to a different email address than the one I use at the real accounts. Everyone just understand that the real people will not ask you for your info in an email, they will call you if something seems strange, like one time I used a card in one place and then just a few hours used it in another place far away and within the hour my cell phone rang and it was the bank wanting to know if I was the one using the card, they verified who I was and clearly identified who they were and all was cleared up. I have also received letters from the bank asking me to call my local branch to verify a purchase.

I got a call from Bank of America yesterday wanted to know all the charges in Fl where mine.

But they didn't ask for any info.

Came up on the phone Bank of America .

I appreciated that they did that.

Was not my usual spending profile, and they just wanted to make sure it was legit.

Now thats a company that knows what they are doing.

PayPal phishing email? Get 'em all the time - at least one a week. If they don't address me by my real name, rather than email or ebay name, they're gone.

Some of them,
are very sophisticated and you wouldn't think that they're bogus.....except that they always come through an address or service not directly connected to your institution to ask to "verify" your info and WITHOUT WANTING YOU TO SIGN IN to the very account that they want you to verify or re-assert.

The more official talk or hard to understand scripting is used to make it look official, the greater the risk of fraudulent phishing in my opinion.

First off, the scripting you see in Tashas post will NEVER be displayed in anything to do with your true banking institution, and the bank will NEVER use cut and paste methods to get your attention!

Phishing can be for advertising purposes or gaining info to poll or "profile" you to mark you for ease of access to your computing data, or to email you in order to get you to "bite" on their product and many more things, INCLUDING fraudulent criminal behaviour. (Guess where those annoying emails come from to sell you anything from viagra to fatwhacking drugs!)

They are not always out to "get" your money, but it is ALWAYS improper or just plain criminal.

Secondly, the Banks or Paypal type places do NOT email you to question you on ANYTHING to do with your banking unless it is to get you to go online to your secure site (to verify that you are you, and to secure your identity from outsiders) after which they then can go through the questions with you.

It really isn't hard to escape the fraudulent attempts.
Simply phone your related institution, to ask them if they have initiated that particular probe you found in your email, and the answer will be a short and resounding powerful NO!

I do this every time when "Phishers" are that good to make me unsure about the legitimacy of the attempt.

No "size or catch" limits in THAT kind of fishing!:D

Sofar so good!

Thanks for the post T's Daddy,

PH.

I know an investigator that deals with fraud, identity theft, and email scams. This guy is busy 24/7 and the sad part about it is that people fall for these scams every day! When you consider the about of naive people it is sad.

Most of the criminals keep on doing it and never get caught.

I probably get 3 of these a day on average. The more eBaying I do, the better the scams get. They've got some that really look good. I always turn them in, but I don't think it does any good.

I get those once in a while. Its usually something about "insert bad paypal thing here" when I havent used my pay pal account in months. I simply log on to my pay pal account, look around, make sure all is well then delete the email. The way I figure, its going to be on my account when I log in. I dont need to verify a damn thing.

One way to quickly identify phishing attempts is to look for the "https:" at the front of the url address that they want you to go to. If it is just "http:" with no "s" then it is not a secured site that uses secured socket layer protocol. Paypal along with almost all sites that exchange monies are secured and use the "https:" protocol.

I got a double whammy last week. Checked my online BofA account and found five charges paid out to an offshore casino and one PayPal charge to a camera company, all in the "pending" column. The odd thing was that BofA wouldn't do anything about them until they posted. PayPal got right on the camera one ($400+) and it disappeared, but the offshore casino ones stuck around for days. Someone got away with that money.
