PC help, no audio TV card

WinXP PC, installed TV card, hooked up to VCR to move tape to dvd . InterVideo software. Video works great, no audio. Can hear audio faintly but when try to turn it up, PC volume indication will not come up past 1st notch. InterVideo audio control not muted, turned up. Can click on something else and volume will work, click back to video, volume back down. Tried Windows Movie maker, same result.
Tried connecting from audio out on VCR to in on PC, same result.
Know it's something simple I'm missing, volume control somewhere?, but where?

On mine I have to run the audio line in through the sound card to get it to show up.

Thanks to all, gotter going. Found audio volume control I had missed on tech help page, still had run separate audio to sound card too.
