Re: Peak reading tester

So how do I make an adaptor for myself? Thanks,Kevin

Hi Kevin
Our main concern/question is why do you think you need a peak reading circuit/meter?

If your working with cars, boats, houses there is no need for the reading. If your reading is fluctuating then the most probable cause is a bad ground or the ground is floating. There is a "hold" feature on the meter I suggested, but if your wanting a hold feature the Fluke model MM1000 is less and also has the feature. The hold feature when pressed just keeps the reading on the meter until it is released. Set aside the hold function your 8020A meter is all you need for a boat except it will not read 10 amps without a shunt adapter. Also your 8020A is a RMS meter.

A DVA is necessary to diagnose a variety of ignition problems. Basically a poor man's oscilloscope. Most meters can't capture anything faster than 250 microseconds which is marginal for an ignition system.

Re: Peak reading tester

I have a Johnson repair manual for that motor and it references a peak reading meter when preforming some of the trouble shooting
tests. While i"m not a repair tech. I do enjoy working and learning to repair things. Especially when I can justify buying
another tool.......A man cannot have too many tools! But learning to solve/fix things gives me purpose and satisfaction.
Tools are great, even better when you can use them properly. Sometimes you do't need them but these questions of yours
are well .

Thank you,
Kevin

Thanks for all your help. it's been very insightful.. I think I will purchase the one dva...........Another thought, Don't the new high end
multi testers for cars have ocilliscopes in them? I remember my Dad having one years ago that was used to test automotve ignitions.

Thank again, And Merry Christmas to all,Kevin
