The way I see things, if there are threads on there, then something needs to screw onto the tube.... but then again in the same respect, there already is a nut that is onto it ... so who knows..lol. do I sound confused yet?

I cant see the plastic tube, but this engine has a large tattle tale hose, and the water flow thru the engine is controled by a valve on the right side of the engine, which is connected to the throttle lever.

Woody,<br /><br />I have exact same thing on my Johnson, a<br />black threaded tube with a nut on it.<br /><br />There is no end cap.<br /><br />Mine started overheating at idle with alarms <br />as you describe. The telltale had water coming<br />out of it, but not that much. The reason for <br />this , turned out to be, the thermostat on one <br />cylinder head was sticking shut(causing the overheat alarm) while the other thermostat, on<br />the opposite cylinder head, was open and allowing<br />water through which is why the telltale looked<br />weak.<br /><br />If I ran at throttle the added pressure from the impellor would pop open the sticking thermostat. This is why it only stuck at idle.<br /><br />Barman

Thanks Barman..... I hate to admit it but I have to have things explained in simple terms when it comes to the mechanics of outboards, but I think that is what is happening probably to mine too. I'll take a look at it this weekend and see what I can see on the stats.... (if I even know what i'm looking for..lol)
