Fellas,
i'm a total newbie when it come to boats, especially outboards.
My question is, after first start up, how fast should water start coming out the pee hole?

Also, Does water come out the exhaust thru the prop also?

Thanks!
Craig

some motors pee instantly some take up to 30 seconds -dont have any info on your motor ( year / serial number) but if its close to a minute then -it could be thermostats or the impellor - check thermostats first ( just replace them they are not worth testing ) .

Depends on whether you are running on muffs or in the water.

Takes a little longer on muffs but should see water at the telltale within about 30 seconds after starting. Standing there waiting for it seems much longer :D

Cooling water exits thru 3 places. Telltale, exhaust relief ports and prop hub.

Awsome!
Thanks fellas!

Water pump was replaced and is brand new. But boat has been sitting all winter.
I guess thermostat would be next.
Problem is,, where the heck is it?

Craig, Your motor does not have a thermostat. The majority of the water sill exit the grates above the antiventilation plate, at the rear of the motor. Some water MAY exit the square, exhaust relief ports at the base of the powerhead. Water will exit thru the prop and the telltale, unless it is clogged up. It takes 20-30 sec or so, to fill the motor with water, and then it will start to exit.

Thanks fellas!
Looks like i'm going to have to take it back to the boat shop that did the water pump.
It doesn't seem to be pumping any water.
Bummer..

Just something that I almost did when replacing my impellar but you may want to make sure that the key is in place. At least my impellar had a key that slipped into place on the shaft that the impellar slides over, thus locking the impellar into roatating with the shaft. If that key is not installed the shaft will just rotate inside the impellar, thus building no pumping pressure. Just something you may want to look for. Good luck and let us know what you figure out
