Guys,
This is on a 7.5 Mercury. 1980/81 Model. I got the impeller corrected and I took the motor to the lake to test it. I got a very weak stream, kind of a spray stream. Came back home, took lower unit off again and checked the distance from the end of the tube to the flat where the lower unit bolts up. I then measured flat area on the lower unit to the area where the tube inserts into the lower unit. There was a 1/4 inch discrepancy. I took the tube out and straightened it some to try to get the tube to seat into the lower unit. Measured it afterward and found that I had gained 1/2 inch so I felt that was enough to get it pumping. I took it to the lake again. Started it up and on start up I got a real weak stream again. If I lowered the RPM's on the engine the stream would pick up a little bit. I then put the unit in gear, both forward and reverse. It started to pee a real stream for a few seconds and then faded somewhat. It did it in both gears. What would cause this. I did put some vaseline on the vanes for the impeller but I can't imagine that this would stop the water from pumping. Is it possible that the vaseline is clogging the tubes and pea stream exit enough to cause this??? Any ideas?????
