Peeing, pumps, and lower ends questions~

Sorry for the noob questions, this is my first boat-

I have an older Evinrude 115 and yesterday to beat a storm I had to go through a shallow canal at low tide- I ended up getting in a bit of mud even trimmed up-
My weep-hole seems to have gotten clogged (it stopped after the mud).

Hopefully it's not the pump, and water seemed to come out all the exhaust areas when I flushed it.

I'm going to try to take the tube off to see if it's clogged (crossing fingers).
Any other suggestions?

Also, when I did the flush, I noticed the screen inside the intake wholes on the lower end was missing from one side (was probably already missing from a long time ago).
Is there a way to replace that screen easily? Or am I better off just using a new peice of screen and using weld-on over the outside of the holes on the lower end?

Thanks for your help!

The telltale outlet can be cleaned with a piece of wire and pressurized air.

The intake screen...... notice the design of the intake area, the manner in which the cutaway tapers in towards the screen. That design is a must which allows the water to gain entrance to the inner intake area.

Welding a flat piece of screen over the intake holes would result in having the water flow over and past the screen, effectively reducing even a new water pump to junk in a very short time.

The lower unit must be removed, and the water pump also must be removed to remove/install a new screen assembly.

I found this:

Is it #4 the screen I'd be replacing?

Is this something I can DIY? I'm pretty handy, but I've never taken a lower end off before.
What all would be necessary to remove the screen? Remove any fluids, lock the shaft, etc?
Thanks again!

To remove the lower unit, disconnect the shift rod and MAKE SURE it does not turn out of adjustment as its measurement is critical.

Remove the lower unit retaining bolts, then drop the lower unit. Remove the water pump. There will be no need to change the gearlube unless it is bad. The only thing to keep in mind is the measurement of the shift rod and the direction in which the top portion of it faces.

What's the model number of that engine?

It's a E115TLCRD

Model number E115TLCRD indicates the engine is a 1984 115hp Evinrude.

The shift rod is measured from the top surface of the lower unit to the center hole of the shift rod in NEUTRAL, as follows.

1985 - 90 thru 115hp = (L) 21-27/32" - - (XL) 26-27/32" plus/minus 1/32" Have shift rod in neutral.

Do I make sure it's in neutral from the controls BEFORE I drop the lower end?

Wire did it! Bunch of muck was stuck in the tube.
Once it cleared I had free flowing water! Thanks!!
