Anyone know if I can use this kit on a 66-68 9.5 Johnson?

http://pennzoil.com/products/marine/hivis_lower_unit_gear_lube.html

And yes - I will get a manual once I can get the year of the motor this weekend.

Also - any advice on if one of these manuals will be adequate or should I get original if I can?

SELOC - '56 - 70 Outboard repair manual
CLYMER - '56 - '72 Outboard repair manual

I agree completely with DJ - the Seloc one is pretty good, and the Clymer one... well, isn't.
The best is the original factory service manual, but it's more expensive. They're still reprinted:
TheOutboardWizard
Mastertech
Marine Engine
Ken Cook
I don't see any for sale on ebay right now, but keep your eyes open.

Re: Pennzoil Marine High Viscosity Lower Unit Gear Lubricant

Thanks folks - I just ordered 2 Selocs - Johnson/Evinrude should cover my two j-boat engines.

Ordered one for my Merc 5.0 LX Alpha too!

I have another thread going on my 9.5 and it sitting for 2 years - issue in short is it is very hard to start, but when running it does VERY well.

I relation to the 9.5 Johnson - I plan on:
0. Already changed plugs.
1. Pulling carb and cleaning it.
2. Draining oil and replacing (guess I should do this after I decarb?)
3. Check Points
4. Check Water Pump
5. Check "clutch dog" wahtever the heck that is.

Guess I will just go step by step and see what happens this weekend.

thanks all - any advice on steps to follow would be appreciated - looking forward to getting this puppy fully functional.

For a motor that old get an old ABOS MARINE manual. It's better than Seloc or Clymer. Your motor would be Vol 1. Motors Below 30hp.and published in 1973. Get them on ebay for under $10.
I first bought ABOS because the USCG was using them.
