Seahorse:
Your statement, "Gee, do you think that Walmart just puts out bids for the cheapest oil that can be labeled TC-W3, so that different batches are from different companies?"

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Wal*Mart did just that.

For what it is worth, the NMMA web-site lists Shell Oil US, as the registered manufacturer of Wal*Mart Super Tech.
Shell Oil US was listed as the manufacturer for several, but not all Havoline, Pennzoil, and Quaker State TCW3 oils.

Charles :)

Wasn't trying to be. :)
Just posted the information fromm the NMMA site that I thought might be of interest.
Chances are, when this thing shakes out, we will find that all the oil refineries are owned by one gigantic conglomerate.

Charles

I use the Walmart oil and find nothing wrong with it. I think it's all the same crap! They just stick different labels on it for jokers that like paying more for one name or another. I always look for "meeting the japanese standards" statement. It means the stuff doesn't gum up your engine even if you leave it sit over winter. I did the test with the Walmart stuff over the winter and had no problems running my two stroke Johnson in spring.

...Oh, and fuel stabiliser is basically naphta.

I would imagine that is a true statement about labeling. I live here the Pacific NW and I know for years salmon was being canned in Alaska in unlabeled cans, being sent here to a warehouse and the labels for several companies were applied and packed in thier company boxes. I know he same thing happens with vegies.
We have 4 refineries here and they have changed names 2-3 times in the past few years, w/exeception of Shell. They have turned all the Texaco stations here in Shell stations now. This is part of the world system we now live with. That is why there is a drive going to reverse NAAPA.

I work for a large oil company. Shell Oil Co bought Penzoil / Quaker State late 2002 they also package private label oil and put that manufacturers label on the bottle. Did you really think Mercury runs it's own refinery?
DO NOT MIX synthetic with reg. TCW3 however mixing Penzoil, Quaker State, Merc. Quick Silver or any other name brand is OK.

Could you please elaborate on your statement not to mix synthetic and regular oils. I have no ax to grind here, just want your opinion.

If you plan on using syntetic from now on ok to mix what is left in tank, but don't switch back in forth.

Isopropanol is plain alcohol! If that's the case, then go to the pharmacy and pay $1.29 for a bottle of it! The stuff I bought says main ingredient naphta and petrolium distillates.

I use Starbrite stabilizer, buy it at Boaters World for about $9+change per quart. Bottle says it does 1oz per 5 gal= 160 gals per qt. I use 1qt in my 115 gal tank and have never had a problem with that mixture.
I happened into the auto section at Fred Meyers the other night looking for gals of 2 stroke oil, they never had any, but did get a quart of Mircale Oil, put 3/4 qt in with 50 gallons of gas. Can't say I saw any difference, just wanted to try it. I think it is about the same mixture.
