I have never had any negetive comments about the boat.

I did however have a lot of people underestimate the first one. I told them I bought a 27'er and none of my friends/family know about boats. When they pulled in and the boat dwarfed the truck, they seemed to be in awe. Needless to say the new boat doesn't get towed home, so it's a different scenario (how much larger a boat looks parked at a residential home, vs a marina is amazing).

I catch more ribbing from people who haven't seen it, and have only heard about it. They jump on the, you must be wealthy kick, although it's just good clean fun.

When I brought my Chaparral home there was a buzz around the neighborhood which quite frankly I was suprised to hear about. It was a few years old but looked new however all Chaps are impressive looking boats in the 2000's if you don't know the brand well. They don't really know how much boats cost and thought it was a lot more than it was. I know this because while the adults don't say these things out loud, their kids repeat them. We live next door to a top 100 Country recording artist and his wife is an exec in the business as well. They live their lives much differently than we do and since I do a full detail on the Chap every time I use it, I can see the headshakes for the amount of time I dedicate to maintaining the boat and pretty much everything else we have. They just rebuy stuff all the time including vehicles and we manitain what we have and keep it for many years. I drive a 2000 minivan which we have had for 7 years and they have probably had 20 vehicles (no exageration) in that time.

I actually had a friend give me my boat, it sat in storage for 8 years and I have spent the summer working on it. The neighbors ask about it and I tell them straight up....it was free and needs work....that makes them disappear for fear of being asked to hold something while I work.

I envy you guys that got to go out boating this year.

I think the perspective of boating to ppl that don't know boating is that it is expensive to buy and maintain. Also, Boating in most parts of the world is a luxuary item. Not a must have to live. Therefore, most associate boating with being a luxuary type item. Just like cars to a degree. Most have to have a car to get around in the world. But you don't need a beemer or Audi to do so. A good old reliable car is all you really need, anything more is a plus/luxuary. Boats not so. Most don't need to have a boat. For most of us it is a toy and a luxuary item. Hence I think the mystique about boating. And yes boats require more attention the cars in general.

Reminds me of my first boat, heap of junk i restored in my yard. Ran the motor for the first time when i got it going and she sounded great, few neighbours came down to see my new bike, they were really disappointed to find that sweet sounding harley was an old evinrude 60 on muffs.

Got a few looks from the neighbors when I brought home my "newest"---1990---boat a couple of months ago. Since then, it's been largely ignored.

On the other hand, last Saturday, I parked at a WalMart in Augusta, GA, left the wife in the truck while I ran in to get some drinks, etc.

Wife said at least four times cars rerouted themselves and cruised the boat with the driver oogling it.

At the launch ramp, while getting in line to retrieve the boat and the wife sitting in it tied to the dock, two boatloads of people awaiting launching of their particular crafts all cruised down to our boat----way at the end of the dock to be out of the way----and she was asked repeatedly by the gents in the groups about the boat.

Of course, I was more focused on the threesome of 20-somethings without a clue trying to launch a boat emblazoned with Ski Nautique all over its sides. After they ran first the trailer then their truck off the sides of the ramp, the truck, with its front wheels cranked all the way to the left and its brakes locked, skidded halfway into the water.

Such fun.

Just like me......I got the question almost every Friday from a former supervisor at a former job, "Are you taking the boat out this weekend?". Him and his wife use to have a nice sail boat, but had got rid of it (way before I worked for him). Only problem about talking about a boat while at work, you (in your mind) are just talking while co-workers can very well think you are bragging about owning a boat. I think there are three types of people who have reactions to someone who loves their boat:
#1. The ones who would like to own a boat, but can't afford one, can give off this "jealousy" look/behavior. Other "jealous behavior" can also come from someone who had a boat and doesn't anymore and misses those "good ol' boating days".
#2. Others care less thinking "a money eater or waste of money" because they had one and spent a lot of money on repairs. Some repairs due to the way the boat was being treated.
#3. And, yet others are quite interested in your boat because they might get one and have the money for it, but want to hear from someone who has tons of fun with theirs.
Funny thing is, my wife's family had a small outboard and a speed boat plus a nice cottage on a lake where they spent many weekends when she was young. My uncle had a speed/ski boat and, whenever I'd visit my cousins, we'd go with him to a local reservior on Sundays. For all the years before her and I met, neither of us owned a boat. Three years after getting married, we bought our first boat.

I feel guilty at work and there is a since of Jealousy. My computer wall paper is a picture of my boat at the lake. One of my employees got pissed at me because I was talking about my boat. I get questioned almost every Friday. "So what are you doing this weekend". My reply "Going to the Lake" I get a shrug look and comment "Have FUN! I dont talk about my boat much any more at work.

I got notices from the police for having my RV on the street for more than 36 hours at the rental I lived in circa 2007-2008, so last year I bought a place with a "toy laydown yard" (eventually to include a shop and covered boat/RV storage). My boat should be here tomorrow and my RV comes home in a month. Each of the 4 neighbors in my cul de sac has a boat stored in their "driveway", so I don't expect any grief (plus, there are no covenants here).

Oh, and bing.com shows me that the previous owners of my house felt similarly...

Yea, I like it a lot. I have the 4.3 liter V-6 with the sport seating plan. It has the larger sun pad over the engine so it pushed the bench seat up closer to the two swivel seats. It is a 1996. Hull is clean and no real scratches. Interior was taken care of by previous owner. It is perfect for me since we only have one kid. It only weighs around 2200 lbs. The V-6 is perfect for this boat.

I drag it home from storage a lot. Wax it every year. Keep it clean.
