Wtf, feels like every person I know has been hounding me!!

I politely say "Aw iwish I could but I've got family coming out and it's only a small boat"

and they still ask a few days later!! like 5 people are doing this..no class!!

Anyone else got this problem?

This actually relates to why i started this thread.

I have a friend who kayaks. Told him last saturday that if he wants to go camping on the island he's bringing only what he can fit on his kayak. (Last time he overloaded the hell out of my boat with all this extra ****). We (my other friend and I) also told him no girls if he can't bring them. ie. he doesn't bring hot chicks anyway.

So today he texts me saying "Yo brother can you bring out XXXXX, she'd really appreciate it"

I said "I can bring her out, but after that the boat is FULL, she needs to find a ride in"

He responds, "Cool man thanks, I got a six pack for you!" (six??wtf?)

Mainly because the boat is full after 4pm, parents, sister, 2 friends and a girl for me. on a 20 foot boat.

So then he goes "well she isnt going to go camping, could you bring her back in?"

NO MOTHER F!! I can't!! WTF. Leave the chick at home if you can't support her.

This is also because I plan to go off on my own, and if I'm responsible for another person who isn't on the boat that is NEVER any fun, especially at night.

Maybe its time to not be polite
The ones asking you to overload your boat (more than once) would not be safe or fun company anyway (IMO)

I thought this kind of thing only happened in Latin America:eek:

It's international then:rolleyes:

In my case, it doesn't only happen for holidays, it happens every weekend..."are you boating this weekend?"..."can you take me?"..."can I take a friend?"..."I'll give you $5 for gas"

I'm learning to say firmly, "I'm sorry, already had plans"

Long time ago when I didn't have a boat, I never asked someone to take me for a ride if they didn't invite me from their own initiative!

I really hate this:mad:

yea, I always consider my passengers - I have no trouble saying NO. However I've just never experienced someone not taking no for an answer.

Yep, more friends than usual are calling right now, asking what my plans are. One even said, I thought u were going to the lake...I said yes, I might go. I hate having to explain that my boat is full, or i just dont want 7 people in my 7 person capacity boat. thats not always a roarin good time lol.

Me, the girlfriend, and 2 kids takes up room as it is....then I usually bring my buddy with, and im good with that! any more than that, and IM responsible for making trips back and forth like a shuttle to and from the dock and beach. usually at MY EXPENSE, no thanks. wow, good thread! haha.

Ever since I passed into law the $20 and beer or food before-you-step-foot-on-my-boat law, things have been quiet. People look at me like I'm crazy, and I simply say, "Hey man, gas prices. I don't make 'em." Or you could allow someone to fully detail the boat prior to departure, including cleaning the bilge spotless with a toothbrush and I don't think they'll be asking anymore.

No, our dog weighs almost 160 lbs and most people think it would eat them for a snack :D

Or you could remind them that there are other boats FOR SALE.

I have that problem with a 14ft tin boat on a weekly basis, suddenly more people want to go fishing than can fit in the boat.

I let them fight it out on the dock. :D

This is what people are not getting.

I'm leaving the dock at 11am, you wana come.........ok bring me a 12 pack or your not getting on.

I'm going back around 6 to pick up my parents, my girl and my sister at this point you are either on the boat on the way back (and getting off when we get to the dock) or your *** is sleeping on an island and staying there till I wake up the next morning AND go out AND STAY out for a while AND THEN come back in on my own.

I'm not waking up at 9am going down to the dock, driving the boat 20 mins out to pick you up, drive 20 mins back in and then 20 mins back out so I can enjoy my day.

I just yelled at the guy that inspired the thread.

I feel ya brother, people dont think about the "taxi" effect haha. it does suck, but now I have it pretty much down to just the people that can "help" properly, and can pitch in at the gas pump before we leave. otherwise, forget it. I actually do ask, well do you have money for gas, food, and drinks? if they say no, i say no lol.

Re: People tryin to hitch a ride for 4th of july!!

i got one buddy that does it right....well, he goes above and beyond. he waits til we go fill up on the way out, and splits the gas bill exactly in half for my truck and boat. cash right there. I request that he go every time haha. its my best buddy ive known for years, but man it sure shows his appreciation for my hard work in boat ownership, ya know?

Re: People tryin to hitch a ride for 4th of july!!

My boat stays in the garage on three-day weekends. My problem is different. I have dozens of shirttail relatives in the twin cities, and most of them have young kids.

I get calls like this: "Hey, I have to do something on Thursday. Can you take Johnny (or Suzy) out fishing that day? You can pick him up at 8 (their house is 30 miles away) and then bring him back after 6."

Now, I like taking kids fishing, but that is just babysitting. My response: "Well, my outboard has been acting up, and I'm worried about that leak in the transom, so it might not be such a good idea. Sorry."

Re: People tryin to hitch a ride for 4th of july!!

Taking my kids out on a relatively small (20 ft) boat with little for them to do other than swim, no air conditioned cabin to escape the weather, not being able to move around when we're under way, etc., can be no fun for me and the wife sometimes. I'm sure as hell not carrying around somebody else's kids because it would be convenient for them to have a babysitter with a boat. I'm really not a jerk, but most people that don't have a boat of their own have no idea what's involved in owning and operating a boat (mainly labor and money). They especially have no idea how hard it can be to keep kids entertained on a 'average mans' boat while the adults are attempting to have a good time too. Maybe with a big pontoon boat with a slide, couple of jet ski's, bimini covering the whole thing to provide shade, plenty of money for food, drinks and fuel, a few other kid oriented toys and activities, and the parents of the kids that aren't mine along to keep track of their own monkeys it could work just fine. However I'm not equipped for all that. So on the 4th this year it will be my wife and kids and me.

i like that law, i told my buddy before who wanted me to take the boat out throw me some cash and he hands me 5 bucks. I just looked at him like keep it i just spent 100 buck before we got here which you saw me spend and try to throw me 5 bucks
