Like a lot of folks, it is time to winterize and do the yearly maintenance. I am in the process of replacing the water pump in my Alpha 1 outdrive and the service manual calls for a product called Perfect Seal. Can anyone tell me what it is and if there is a good substitute that I can buy locally? If not, my winterizing will have to wait until I can order it.

Thanks,
John

It would be Easier if you'd state Where,+ How Perfect Seal is Used in Context of your manual....

Re: Perfect Seal Substitute

Perfect Seal is used as a waterproof thread sealant and general gasket adhesive.

When I coudn't find it for my Merc, I went to the local Johnson/Evinbrude dealer and got their brush-on sealer, which works great on any brand engine.

Re: Perfect Seal Substitute

Thanks for the info. I found a can of the Eveinrude/Johnson sealer that Lark40 uses. The mechanic said it was what they use on all drives and engines where a non hardening sealer is called for.

John

Re: Perfect Seal Substitute

Forgive me digging this thread up from the dead, however the title is exactly my question and the thread didn't fully answer it.

It sounds like there are substitutes out there. How about Permatex #2? I ask because I have some of that and it would save me time and money.

I will be using it for an impeller replacement soon. If I must have Perfect Seal or something different please advise.

Thanks :)

Start a new thread and don't drag up old threads. You would be surprised how often people only read the original post and never see questions near the end.

Re: Perfect Seal Substitute

I have a problem/question as well... I have a 2002 496 mag merc. The antifreeze is leaking out of the heat exchanger opposite the thermostat side. I have replaced the rubber seal and hose clamps twice, and it continues to leak. I have been told that this is a common problem with these engines, has anyone ever heard this before? I can not figure out why it is leaking. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry bout that. New around here and I don't know the protocol yet. Some forums don't want duplicate threads, others don't like bumping old threads. I will start a new one. Thanks.
