Theses bolts are slightly recessed in. Does that mean rotted transom?

It does not take too much with a wrench to crush the wood in a transom (and crack the fiberglass). I use a piece of stainless steel (1/8") on one of my boats similar to this http://www.bobsmachine.com/images/BMS%20backing%20plate.jpg

When I pulled my first motor off(15 plus years ago), all I had was a come-a-long and a big limb on a tree:laugh:!!! It worked and it was the same size motor as yours. I now use that same come-a-long in my garage or use an engine hoist to do it. With some ingenuity and a come-a-long, you could make a puller!!!

I wish i could do just that keefallan but i dont have a tree that wouldnt uproot by doing that, Ha.

id suggest you take some pictures with the camera at the same height as the cav plate, DO NOT rotate the dang camera keep it flat with the horizon!!!!! looking at your 90 degree pictures is awful!!you can take some from behind the motor looking at the transom.....if you are at the right height we will see the keel running down the boat almost.....bob
