Permanent Fuel Tank Choices

Hi Folks!

I'm planning on installing a permanent fuel tank in my 1957 Whirlwind, and I have some choices to make:

- RDS offers an aluminum tank that would fit nicely in a spot in the rear. Anyone have personal experience with RDS tanks?

- I also have a lot of space in the bow where I could mount a 19 gallon bow tank (Moeller or RDS). That would put move a lot of weight (roughly 160 pounds) to the front of the boat. That should make it easier to get the boat up on plane. Any disadvantages?

- And if I go with a bow tank, is the motor's fuel pump (1957 Mercury Mark 55E) going to be able to pull the fuel from that distance (about 15 feet)?

Thanks!
Dave

I had a tank under my bow on my Jupiter and I had no issues with drawing fuel from it. It was nice to move that weight forward.

If you need the weight moved forward then you will be fine with a bow tank. Just make sure 19 gal is enough fuel for your purposes.

Thanks! I'm guessing you have an outboard on the Jupiter. Correct?

Coming from a 6 gallon tote tank, it would be a huge improvement. Thanks!
