Just bought a 1976 Fiberform with a Mercruiser 120hp (engine serial #4479073) stern drive. Came with a Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition kit for the engine that is not installed. Are these points replacement electronic ignition kits worth the time and trouble to install? What would the benefit, if any, be if I installed the kit?

Which version is it? I installed an ignitor II on mine. I gained a couple hundred RPM and easier starting. Installing is not hard. When I was considering the change I talked to my dad and he had done it on his 1966 mustang many years before and liked it.

Pertronix Ignitor Part #1144A says it's for a Delco 4cyl w/Vac Adv.

It takes about 30 minutes to install and worth every penny. Points are yesterdays technology. The only difference between the Ignitor I and Ignitor II is the second one adds automatic dwell adjustment. Unless you are using a modified engine, I don't believe you will see much difference between the I and II except for price. Make sure you also invest in the Flamethrower coil to get the most out of your set up.

Sorry, misread that. Looks like you need 6A, not 4A.

Here's the application list from one of the resellers: http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/mercruis.htm.
Doesn't look like yours is listed in this application.

I'm using the Hot Spark brand of conversion kit and coil in my Volvo and it works great. Set it once and forget about it.

Now - about that Fiberform. There aren't too many left. As soon as I figure out where to put it, I'll start a new thread and we can compare notes.

Many of those kits go by distributor number so you'll need to find yours to check applicability.

By the way, welcome to the forum. Good to see another Fiberform owner. There is a Fiberform section of the forum here: http://http://forums.iboats.com/Fiberform_Boats
You'll be able to find other Fiberform owners and perhaps get some other information over there.
