Hi All- I have a 20litre plastic boat tank of regular petrol- that been sitting for a while and I am not sure if its had the 50:1 two stroke oil added.......for an old 1975 Evinrude.
-I was hoping if anyone knows a simple test to check if its got any two stroke oil added??- If it has it would be a 50:1 mix.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard.
Dunno what kinda dyes you have in your fuel down under, but the oils sold here in the US are typically green or blue. So you should see this color.
However, if it's been sitting awhile, I'd dump it.

20 litres is not a great amount of fuel so if in doubt, add more oil at 50:1 and run it. If there is already oil in the fuel the engine will smoke more but will run ok. If it doesn't have oil in it, the oil you add will make it correct. No sense disposing of perfectly good fuel -- unless its more than six months old and did not have a fuel system treatment (such as Stabil) added.

Thanks to you all for the advice!- I will add more oil to ensure its atliest 50:1 or posssibly 25:1 then add it to other fuel tanks that are 50:1.
Our regular gas is a purple colour at the moment -similar to the colour of two-stroke oil.

I "discovered" a german wasp nest when mowing the lawns yesterday (a golfball sized hive hole in the dirt) - I got them angry and escaped the small swarm with 1x sting........I returned at sunset and used a litre+ of this fuel to burnout the hole and then put some fireworks in afterwards. A great use of this fuel and a good lesson to angry/nasty attacking wasps!!

Its good to be onboard here on this great site and warm New Year wishes to all from here in the summertime conditions of the SW Pacific- Auckland NZ.

Hawke,

Your solutions (both the mixing in fresh fuel and the wasp eradication) sound like good approaches. Another method would to put a couple of drops of fuel on a clean piece of blotter paper. Gas will evaporate, oil will not. Check it after a day and see if it feels oily. If so, oil is present. If not, it was straight gas.
