PFD question

Getting back into boating after a 10 year hiatus. Was wondering if its still required to have a quantity of PFD's that matches the boats capacity even though there are fewer people in the boat?

I think everywhere it is required to have a PFD for each passenger aboard and being worn by passengers under a certain age.

The one PFD per capacity I think only applies to commercial boats that carry passengers for hire.

You have to keep 1 jacket per person on board and 1 throwable flotation device.

What about flares and whistles and some of the other equipment they talk about having? Do I need these on a 21 foot runabout?

Not to be harsh here, but if you are asking basic safety questions like these . . . don't you think you should take a basic boating safety course before you get back on the water and before you endanger yourself and others?

What you're asking doesn't make sense. So if flares, life jackets etc were not a requirement . . . you would not feel the need to have them on board?

Different states have different requirements too. Take a course. Both my Wife and I did and I learned stuff after 30 years of boating that I never knew I was doing wrong

In PA it is a requirment to take a course to operate a boat. Also in PA you are required to have them.
