Keep an eye for seepage, often when removed the o-ring/gasket gets damaged and leaks

On a newer V-4 motor you can take that screw out all day long and put it back in all day long.-----It is there to prevent the pinion bearing from moving due to oil pressure build up in that bearing.---Replace the o-ring on it if it has one.-----That screw has nothing to do withj shifting on a V-4 motor !!

Nowhere did the OP say what the engine was. Based on his original post it sounded like he took out the pivot screw near the skeg trying to drain the lube. Racerone is referring to a screw above the propshaft centerline.

???-----It has been stated that it is the screw that prevents the bearing from moving !!!----Not sure why more questions are asked on this ??
