would love to drop my land line, but my Internet service is a slave service of my voice service,
dsl is a overlay signal on the voice channel, so basically I have to have a voice line to have the dsl.
this is how 911 works, all 911 calls are directed to a central switch which looks up your address based on the phone records derived from the billing records of the phone company and then the call is directed to the correct 911 call center based on location and contract for that municipality. not always physical location. Cell phones 911 are handled differently, they rely on interrogation by the oparator, although e911 does allow for some tracing, don't hold your breath. Magic jk, vonage and other Internet protocol based phone systems are similar to cellular except they are going to auto dial to a central switch and forward your 911 call into the system with your details.
