I'd suggest visiting the marinas and boat dealers around where you're going to boat.
They should have a good selection of boats, used and new, for the waters you'll be using.
Ask questions about why this and that for the different boats and learn.

Research for a couple of months, and that includes this forum.

I agree. It sounds like you're not sure what you want. Something in the 20' range isn't going to have much more than a v-berth, but be okay for water sports and be easily trailerable. It's not going to have the amenities mentioned originally and also be minimal for hopping up and down the Bay should it kick up.
