This "3805933" (don't know the year) 7.5hp outboard was listed on craigslist as "flywheel wont turn" and the guy wanted $300. I called and offered him $20, he accepted, and I went and picked it up. The plan was to ebay its parts. Figured I would see if I could free it up. Lubed up the cylinders, and pulled out the breaker bar. Gave it a little push and it wiggled a bit. Looked at the spark plug holes, and pistons where moving a tad! Pulled off the lower unit, no more stuck powerhead! Did a compression test, 100psi in each cylinder.

Turns out the thing is perfectly fine, just, a stuck lower unit.

So, I'm at a stand still - I have never taken apart a lower before, thus, I don't know what I'm doing. And, this is the first merc I have ever worked on. I would like to get it freed up, but its pretty stuck, and both drive shaft and shift rod are rusted.. I tried taking of the water pump, its stuck too.

So, what would ya'll do?

Big B
How did you remove the lower unit from the power head I have to do this to mine,Do you have pictures or the procedure you used to remove the lower unit, I need to get at my exhaust plate.

On your topic looking for help soak everything down with Aero kroil and use a but of heat to set some of the bits moving.once things brear kfrre give then a good cleaning to remove the rust/corrosion.

BTW I love my 7.5 Merc! mine just needs some tlc.

one bolt above the prop, one near the mid section, and some prying. That is all it took
