Picked up a folding Johnson today!

I bought a nice 1967 3hp folding Johnson today WITH the suitcase for $80! Compression is 80 and 85psi after 6 pulls, and it has new coils, points, condensers, impeller. Someone left stinky old gas in it, so I'll clean out the tank, rebuild the carb and replace the fuel lines. I notice on the instruction decal, it says to use Type "C" gearcase oil? Anyone have any experience with that? I thought type "C" was only for electric shift motors?

Hey lindy, nice find. I always got a kick out of those folding J dubbs. A nice little addition to an antique outboard collection. ;)

So does anyone have any comments about using Type "C" gear oil in this little 3hp direct drive motor?

The reason I ask is, I, too have an older 3hp, a 1953-54 Lightwin and the lower unit looks very similar. The instruction decal on that one states to use Hypoid 90wt oil. I'm just wondering if changes made on the later models prompted a recommended change to Type "C" oil?
