Well I saw a deal on Craigslist and picked up an older Competition O'Brien ski. It says its 70" and is wood grain on the top but is composite/fiberglass.

Any thoguhts on this thing? I picked it up since its larger than my combos and I am a bigger guy 6'4" 230 lbs.

It doesn't looked liek it was really even used so for $25 it seemed liek a good deal.

Anyone seen this guy before?

Up at the family cabin we have an O'Brien much like that, bought new in 1976. I'd guess your ski is a 1978 or 1979.

Same construction. Fiberglass, narrow tunnel bottom, wood laminate top. Ours has a red bottom and is a 68". I don't think I've skied on it since 1979, but it rides very smooth and still gets used a lot.

It'll pop you up with no problem. It can't compete with more modern skis, but it'll do its job just fine.

Thanks for the info, it would be cool to see the catalog from it's new year but I can't seem to get it to come up.

About the best I can find is an ad from 1979.

Third image from the top in their lineup. Seems like they may have called it the Wood Team Comp. or World Team Wood. Lime green baby!

I was skiing on a pair of trick skis yesterday from that same era. Aluminum top with World Team colors, blue and green.

Hopefully this week I can get it a hot and see if I can get up on it behind my boat. Should be interesting, as well as skiing in a river with low dams and about average of 9 feet deep. The reason I got this is so I don't have to kick off the other ski.
