I've been told that when a skier falls you should turn to the left to pick them up. Now I'm told to turn to the right that way the skier is always in sight from the drivers seat.

Anyone know which is the right way?

Right turn is prefered, but if it is easier to make a left turn and cross over to the skiers left and make a right turn around skier, that is just as good. Use your judgement on this one. Which ever is safest at that moment.

Craig

There is a more important protocol to follow, but right turn is preferred...

When the skiier falls, bring the boat to a stop, rather than make a fast sweeping turn to pick them up. let the wake hit the back of the boat before you make the turn around (at idle speeds). IDLE the boat back to the skiier to prevent rollers...

This is of course provided it's not 45 degree water and 45 degree air temps. In that case you turn around slow then when you are facing the skiier you can give it some juice to pick them up quicker.

Refer to skiing etiquette 101 :) )

The way I usually do it is check for other boats in the area and turn to where you put your boat between the skier and the nearest approaching boat. I always put the skier on the right when I bring the rope to them.
