More thinking, if you have to make the trip, pick up the ICW at the SANIBEL causeway. Plenty of places to put in if you have to. If you run into problems in pine island sound, got you covered. 239-283-3164. FRED

awesome, love how someone offers up to help out someone else they dont even know.

good man!!!

Re: Picking up the new boat Sat!

Thanks Guys! We're here in Naples now, it is still pretty windy but it's supposed to ease up late tonight and tomorrow.

Unfortunately we learned only this afternoon that where the boat is the tide will be too low in the morning to put it in the water (it's up on a lift) so looks like it will be 11:30 or so before we can get started.... fuel dock is only about 1,000yds away so that won't take too long..

The plan which is subject to change is to run off the coast up to clearwater and then jump across the northern gulf...

IF it's too rough tomorrow we'll shinny up the ICW (very slow down here with all the no wake zones) and just play it by ear.

We're both not out of our comfort zone in 6ft seas and the boat will certainly take that and good bit more.

The up side to the late morning start is it will give me more time to go over the boat and check everything out. We're told that the generator (5KW) has never been run... however that may or may not be true as the wife and son are not positive.. so need to get that squared away and make sure it's running or we'll have limited 120V service on the way back. Also need to pick up about 30gals of Yamalube...

Hopefully the trip will be as uneventful as possible... yeah it's a bad weekend but we both have obligations to fullfil and the terms of the sale require the boat removed by the first of next week anyway.

I"ll be taking a lot of pictures of the boat and trip and soon as I can get them uploaded to photo-bucket I'll post some.

Pick up a couple of drift bags, just in case! They are cheap and will slow a boat in wind. when you are without power and current is in your favor and wind is not, they will give YOU! more time to help yourself. imho.

Wow!! What a beautiful boat...... Looks like you got a great deal, too. That's not many hours at all on those motors, huh? What are those good to, about 3 or 4 thousand hours or what?
Good luck on your trip, I was excited just thinking about it.
Looking forward to some pics,
JBJ

Re: Picking up the new boat Sat!

Info if you still have net access. No speed restrictions on the ICW from the tip of SANIBEL up to BOCA GRAND PASS. Go as fast as you want. If there are problems, marker 40 at red fish pass, south seas plantation, stear 90 degs. to flamingo bay. Have white wrap on the first 3 pilings, follow the rest in. Lift can accomidate 7K. Can get you home and visit the SIL in BILOXI, MISS. at same time. Wait for better weather. Again 239-283-3164. By all means, let us know how the trip went. FRED

We're back!

We're back!

Well we are finally back home!

The trip was an adventure, water was rough as we missed our "window" due to issues with the sellers bank that delayed our departure for over 5 hours.

His banker works on Sat. mine does not.... Mine was on the golf course and was out of pocket until early Saturday afternoon which put us behind as once the finances were settled we still had to load the boat, fuel and make a short test run before heading out.

We went offshore to clearwater, stayed the night and then went offshore again to Steinhatchee FL. We would have continued on across the bay (80 miles) but the crap pots were unbelievable.... they were freaking everywhere that made night travel in rough water out of the question as they were hard enough to see in daylight due to the 6-8ft seas. Dodging the crab pots in those conditions while trying to make speed was the most stressfull part of the entire trip! It litteraly wore me out.

We then entered the ICW at Appalachicola and took it as far as Navarre FL. Spent the night on the boat (thank god for the heat pump as it was freezing)

Got up this morning to near freezing temps and a north wind of 20kts gusting to 30kts. Fueled up and headed up the ICW making good time until we got to Mobile bay... the bay was torn up as bad as I've ever seen it... strong north wind with a incoming tide... we could only make about 18kts across the bay without taking a beating.

Anyway got to Dauphin Island at noon and had the boat pulled out of the water and set on a stand as the strong north wind would have prevented us from getting it on the lift (lift is broadside to the North).

I'll leave the boat there for a few days until the weather calms down and then move it to the house.

We took a few pictures along the way and once I get some well needed sleep I'll post them.

Thanks for all the interest in the "journey"

And thanks to Pine Island Fred for his very generous offer of assistance. Glad we didn't need it but it was VERY comforting to know that it was there if the need arose.

Re: Picking up the new boat Sat!

if you have time check out michelbobs ribs and grouper and chips..

We didn't eat there but did eat at a place called "Sharky's" that was recommended by the hotel in Naples as it was close by and we were tired from the 11 hour drive.

The food was excellent, loved the cylindrical aquarium! We were likely out of place though and it showed... most folks were in suits and nice dresses (most of the population there are "wealthy beyond belief" and "older than I" and I'm no spring chicken.

I was wearing jeans and a long sleeve camo shirt with browning hunting boots and my brother was wearing jeans and long sleeve shirt that he "forgot" to tuck in... LOL.

Service was a bit snooty.... the bill was just under $60 and when I handed the waiter a $100 bill he asked "do you need change?"! It did NOT help his tip.

haha awesome! goin to a "nice dress" that aparently requires your shirt be tucked in while wearing camo and boots. thats my kinda style!!

then the snooty waiter... that is just plain rude and an ignorant question even if the average guest is worth more in a day than i will be in my entire lifetime.
u shoulda tipped him 4%... he wanted 40 so drop the 0 and call it good for being a prick

overall sounded like a somewhat fun trip tho it sounds very tiring to say the least. love to see some more pics of the boat when you get a chance.

Happy to hear you made it ok. Was concerned about the heavy gust but the wind started laying down around noon. Looks like you have a lot of boating ahead of you once this cold front moves out. Or after that trip you might want to stay off a boat for awhile. FRED

Collier County (Naples) has had the highest number of millionairs per capita than any county in the U.S. for many a year. In the 70's I used to work down there and always took my surf board in the back of the wagon for cheap entertainment. Had to, everything except the local Lums restaurant (remember them) were way more expensive than the meal allowance. There were miles and miles of seaside mansions along those beaches.

Actually it would have been a 67% tip... he got 5 bucks and a smiling wave goodbye.

I believe in the acronym TIPS (To Insure Prompt Service). All he would have received from me is the smile and a wave. Assuming a 67% tip is way too damn presumptuous for me.

Yeah it was amazing and bizarre at the same time... The seller's mother (who actually owned the boat as her husband passed away last November) had the house for sale where the boat was. For a cool 18 million you could own it. Obviously it was a beautiful home, triple 10ft french doors at the entrance, the docks (all of them along this waterway) were identical and all connected. The decks were mahagony, not PT!

And even though there was access through the lawn around the side of the house to the dock she insisted we bring everything through the house to the boat.... she didn't want "foot prints" on her lawn:eek: When I said we didn't want to track up her marble floors her response was "the maid can get that up no problem, the gardner can't do anything about the footprints!"

The son's girlfriend (5'10" blonde and gorgeous) told us that she makes the gardner trim the plants from INSIDE the beds... so he doesn't track up the lawn! God forbid someone should actually walk on it.

But don't get the wrong impression, these were nice folks. Made us feel very welcome and tried to assist us in any way they could.

Just to give you an idea of the "money", the man who owned the boat was one of the original partners in Waste Management along with Wayne "H" (can't spell his name but he owns blockbuster video and the miami Dolphins)

They sold Waste Management years ago for a sizeable fortune. And while they had non-compete agreements, the son did not. He promptly started another roll off container company which undercut WM's prices and cut into their market share. within a few years they also bought him out netting him millions more..

While this boat is a huge step up for me, it was indeed the smallest one we saw in the area. As we were leaving the inlet a 100 footer was coming in that was sporting a "launch" on the aft roof nearly as large as the Pursuit.

They were all nice folks, just live in a different world than the rest of us.

Another thing I forgot to post (actually I'm a little embarassed about it) is another cause for delay in finalizing the purchase was my fault... actually the delay was my fault period.

The sellar had sent me all the information on the boat prior to my bidding on it, including all the service information along with contact information for the dealer who'd sold and serviced the boat... One of my concerns was the generator as I had read that sometimes Pursuit installed the generator where the fishbox was supposed to be. The seller (who'd never been on the boat except to take the pictures on the ebay ad) didn't know and suggested I call the dealer to make sure. I called the service manager and inquired about the fish box to which he replied he'd check the file on the boat and call me back. He called a few hours later and said that the generator was not installed in the fish box space but was up under the helm station where the rod locker would be. So from my prospective I was good to go.

Once we arrived and inspected the boat it was only an after thought that I opened the "fish box".... there was the generator! Well that was a problem for me. I fish. That's my only reason for wanting this boat and I didn't relish the idea of having a large cooler sitting on the deck even though it's a very large deck.

We'd already loaded the boat at this point but I told the seller that this was a "deal breaker" and asked if they'd be kind enough to take us back to a rental car office. He understood and said "I understand, I'm very sorry you were given the wrong information about it".

So we load up... what a pain in the ***... and just as we're pulling up to the rental office (no one spoke the entire way) he says "would $5,000 make this problem go away? My mother really doesn't want to deal with this and I certainly don't want to go through all this again"

My brother and I stepped out of the Range Rover and talked for a minute (actually just talked about the trip and my brother telling me that I was crazy for walking in the first place as I was "stealing" the boat in the first place. to which I replied "he who speaks first in these situations loses" He then realized that I had no intention of not following through with the deal. I was within a few seconds of saying "you know what? We've come this far, it's a nice boat, let's just do this and get it over with"..

So now the delima was the cashiers check was made out for the full amount and the total had changed.... that created the issue with the bank that needed resolved.

So my brother went to West Marine with the girlfriend to pickup the oil and a few other things and I went off to the bank with the seller.

Hey 5 grand is 5 grand. Once in awhile a old redneck gets a break:p
