Is that UT as in Tennessee or Texas? Cause I'm from the UT area of Tennessee (well, not originally, but now I am). Small world if that's where you studied.

LOL, 45. Should we tell them that the fishermen are tearing up the Specks (Speckled Trout) down in Lafitte?

My bad, sorry. I forget that other areas have their UT's too. I was at the University of Texas at Austin.

I have run into similar misunderstandings when I was living in Massachusetts and mentioned friends at "SMU"....

I bet there are probably a bunch of "UM"s around, too.

I received an email this morning from one of the Dean's at Silver Deep charters here. No description or names, but just this photo. I guess they figure it's self explanatory. I can tell by the background it was taken at Turtle Cove Marina. And of course y'all recognize the fish:

I know what you are talking about, a little. My father was a geophysicist, and I stumbled through the marine geology program at UT for a few years my own self, before moving into the seismic exploration and oceanographic fields.

But if we had warning enough, we could hop on the boat in Leeward and be in 5,000 feet of water in 10 minutes. Only about three miles if we go North instead of South.

Hmmmmmm, ten minutes ya say? I bet you n' yer wife would likely make it then fairly easily, if ya didn't freeze up in the ol' head lights, n' acted real quickly. It would be real easy to think fer a few minutes now n' have a quick get away package fer yer boat n' follow a planned route to deep water. Water, fuel, food, fire arm/ammo, first aid n' other essentials ta last long enough so that you could make it back after the waves passed ta get the longer term survival stuff, (the trip back would be real tough especially fer yer wife). I would ponder makin' some sorta place ta store further necessary items fer longer term survival once the waves had passed, n' prolly wiped off much of the low areas. It would take some thinkin' but it would not be expensive ta make minor provisions now when the ol' sun is shinnin' n' yer livin' large.

If ya talk about it openly every one of yer friends will laugh at ya now n' would be the first ones waitin' at yer boat at the dock if there ever was a real problem. Sooooo: mum is the word, or be careful who ya wanna let know yer a bit whacked, cause ya think tooooooooooo much.

I have been blessed to have a much smaller island in a much colder place in a much smaller puddle o' water. (It has clearly cracked me brain cell, [as you can now tell]). That said, I store inexpensive long term low maintenence essential survival supplies at my island, and we are planting fruit trees et al, n' takin' steps to make our summer place a potential home in a time of stress. The nice part is most of the stuff is usefull while times are good, and if life stays good then: so what? I try to not get toooooo whacked about potential low probability risks, but if some low dollar well thought out plans saves yer n' yer family's arse(s), what the hey?????

Respectfully, JR

Thank you all for the great pictures I only have 122 days left until I get my mistress in the water once again. Winter here in Kemptville Ontario Canada is HIGHLY OVERATED. I did have to empty my drule pail at least twice while going the through the pics. I look forward to seeing more.

ya know Oldmercs I have an uncle who stock piled diesel, guns, and ammo out on the family farm back during the Y2K scare. He has two big millitary generators for power, 2000 acers of farm land, enough guns to supply a small army, and enough fuel to run the place for a few years. I think hes a little crazy, but if things go bad i know where i'm gonna make a run for.
