Motor has been in my family since bought new in 1956, been sitting around since the 80's. Soaking a little MMO in the cylinders and doing the impeller, fuel lines, rebuild tank, ignition, and we'll see if she runs without a carb rebuild. It had been tuned up in the 80's and looks like never run on the plugs they put in.

She's a beauty, but I would do the carb, at least take apart and clean. Fairly easy job, and id eat my hat if it didn't need it. Ronnie

I have a kit and a new plastic float, so I guess I'll go ahead and do it once I get a stand built

FYI - it's a 1955 model. 1955 was the only year for that Aquasonic 15.

Got a new driveshaft seal, new prop seal in and that o-ring behind the prop seal in the lower unit, I can't figure out how the shift rod seal works, is it an o-ring?

I soaked it for a week with marvel mystery oil, put new coils and condensors in it, I'm getting a nice blue 1/4" spark and making 70lbs of compression in both cylinders, I have high hopes that this thing will run really sweet if I can get the carb rebuilt and dialed in.
The 20 year old impeller actually was in pretty good shape, replaced it anyway and have a gas tank kit on the way.

70lbs is a little low, but as long as its even you are good. Use 24:1 gas to TC-W3 outboard oil.

The shiftshaft seal is an o-ring packed under and brass bushing. You need to pop out the bushing to replace it.

I think it'll be alright though, who knows maybe it'll run a little and improve. I'm also at high altitude so those figures are 20% lower than they would be at sea level.

Any idea how to get that bushing out? I looked at it and thought it was a seal, there's no easy way to access it and I already put the bottom back on the lower unit :(

The best way to get the bushing out is from below...using a rod with a shoulder to tap it out. Or cutting a few threads in the top and pulling from the top...but this may require replacement of the bushing afterwards.

I found an old thread where a guy found a spade bit that had a tapered shank, just so happened I had one too! Worked great, took more tapping than I thought it would but just a few minutes and the old o-ring is out and the new one is in and the lower unit is back together, hopefully the same way it came apart, hehe.

Talk to F_R. He's willing to sell you a nice shift rod seal removal tool that works great. I bought one recently and I was quit impressed.

Nice looking old motor, by the way. That will make a great restoration project. 70 psi on the cylinders isn't too bad, comsidering it was checked with a hand starter. At least you're getting the same readings between the two, and that is what's important. I think once you get it running and run it for about an hour, it'll improve a bit.

When re-installing the bushing and o-ring I like to clean the mating surfaces and apply a little sealant. I use Scotchweld 847. Same as you use for the lower unit spaghetti seal. I also tap the bushing in place while I have the shiftshaft sticking through both the o-ring and bushing. Just tapp it enough to seat back in its original place. You don't need/want to compress the o-ring.

and she's alive.
Did not rebuild the carb, have an idea it was done in the 80's and never seen fuel since... either way parts are on hand just in case.
Sorry the video makes you dizzy, what can I say it's a phone...

Yeah, I think so too. I cranked the low needle all the way in, back out 1.5 and tweaked from there and got the idle to smooth out but I need to review the thread in the secret thread on setting the low and high needles.

Good work. What a lovely sound. Let us know how she does on the water. Rick.

Sweet old motor - and she'll probably run for another 50+ years with proper maintenance.:)
