thanks, I'm hoping for some of people royally messing up while trying to load the boat on the trailer, so I can show my friends why I'M THE ONLY ONE that launches or loads my boats to the trailers

spend some time searching or surfing the "stupid human tricks" section. But please don't comment on the old ones.

sorry, i've no pics or record of my story. a story is all i have. the story in my mind don't qualify as a stupid human trick either. imho..

at lake mcconaughy a few years ago i was doing some jetskiing. i had three days camping there. 1st day was dead calm, 2nd day was exciting, the third day was dangerous and extreme. i just thought i was gonna go jetsking that day.

so i'm 4th or 5th in line at the boat ramp to launch. in ft. of me is a sailboat retrieving. the winds were strong and the waves were real large. it took 10 men to load that sailboat, maybe a 23'er. they had a terrible time getting it situated to load, but were successful after much effort. 2nd guy in line was a speedboat retrieving. a 20'er maybe. that boat got picked up by a wave and set down on top of the dock perpendicular to the dock. on the dock, like a teeter todder. pretty funny to watch. it took several men to get it off the dock and on to the trailer.. 3rd guy was a pontoon boat retrieving. he got kinda close to being on the trailer prior to a wave slamming him into his trailer only to break the trailer bunks. the break was bad enough they didn't load it. it drove away into the large surf. 4th guy was a girl on a jet ski. during launch the waves picked her ski up and took it off the trailer prior to it being unhooked from the trailer. it was smashing with wave action into the trailer every wave that came by. she finally launched. i was next. well, i just seen what was gonna happen. ski getting ripped off the trailer by a big wave. i won't let that happen to me. wrong, i did the same thing. near broke my hand or fingers trying to get to the winch strap to get it free from the trailer as the ski is wildly being slung around by the large surf.
so my ski is in the water. my 'ol lady and my 11 year old boy were in charge of keeping the ski off the beach. it was all they could do to keep it off the beach. the waves were crashing over the top of the ski (instead of the ski riding up and down the waves) they were so large. at this point good judgment took me over. i wasn't gonna get to go jetskiing today. it was to much.
so back in line i get. gets down to me to load. i got my ski almost on the trailer and then a wave picked my ski up and slammed it into my trailer. broke one of my bunk boards. i heard it go snap. fortunately for me, the break was behind the mounting point of the board. i finally got the ski on the trailer. packed up my stuff and drove 300 miles with my broke bunk board back home.

it was an exciting day to say the least. sorry i don't have pics for ya...

Re: pics of docking carnage

I saw plenty of videos on YouTube of launch. docking, and boating miss-haps.
I was looking for proper launch/retrieve 'techniques', I have never owned a bunk-float-on and need to learn...BEFORE i go to the dock.
I don't want to become a YouTube moment!

Last night I found this looking for T top pictures.
It's off topic, but this is what happens when you over power a boat...it becomes unstable!

IT IS GROSS!
You have been warned!

Re: pics of docking carnage

I am lucky enough to be moored right near the ramp, so we can toss some chairs on the deck and let the good times roll. Seriously. It's better than TV.

I've seen some real stupid behavior, and this is coming from me: A very inexperienced boater. But I've found I can't go wrong with error on the side of saftey and taking it slow.

Anyway, the worst case I saw was when someone somehow managed to get their boat off the trailer and then drove it in reverse, full throttle into the ramp. That had to do some damage. So, they went away from the ramp, and turned the steering all the way so the boat would circle, and let it do so, still at a reasonably high throttle setting, while they went to look in the engine compartment. Please keep in mind, the boat ramp is more of a lagoon, not open to the lake, with moored boats on two sides, a wall, and rocks on the others. It's very tight.

Next, someone let their wife drive and she apperently did not know how, lost it, and slammed their 30'er into the dock on both sides of my boat. And naturally the husband was cussing her up and down, but really who's fault it is for making her drive with no experience. And that is the 3rd time that people has smacked the dock while I'm sitting there.

Good times. If I ever get anything other than a POS, or get mine fixed up - i'll have to switch slips.

Re: pics of docking carnage

Ok heres the deal Jeremy, find someone you go out on your boat with the most and train them on the way you prefer to launch, for me its my wife, you have to be patient but figure out his/her weaknesses and adjust your launch/load routine to fit. My wife can't back the truck and trailer down the ramp so she loads/launches the boat and after 5 years of us boating together I have to admit she makes me look stupid when I try it, she nails it first time every time while I may need 3 or 4 tries. We prep prior to approaching the ramp, she and passengers get into the boat, I back down the ramp and float the boat then release the bow strap and she backs it off the trailer, I go park the truck, she comes and picks me up off shore or the dock and I drive the boat out to the lake, pretty simple process and loading is just the opposite. If the lake is in bad shape or the wind is blowing then its all me and she handles mooring the boat to the dock she already knows that I will wait until a spot opens up on the leeward side of the dock(downwind so that the wind helps keep the boat off the dock),Everyone else just watches unless we need more hands on deck to handle the wind, involving them can be useful but they can also get in the way which is what I figure your finding out. Rest assured you can sink your boat loading and launching and it can't get much worse then that, I would also agree that anchoring up within good viewing of the ramp and cracking a cold one can be some of the best comedy you will never have to pay for! Launching and loading is way easier with one more qualified person to help but they need to be trained the way you do it. Its my $30,000 boat and I am the one responsible for it I don't think anyone is out of line for having the same philosophy, another way of looking at it is that its my boat I am the one legally responsible for everyone on my boat and their actions.

Re: pics of docking carnage

ziggy, I have seen more boats sink at Big Mac then any three other lakes combined! When we go there we normally have five to seven families with as many as 6 boats camped on the beach at North Shore, we watched a storm coming and pulled every boat in 30 minutes retrieving on the sand then watched as three boats on either side of our area sank, we tried to retrieve a pontoon but the owner just beached it after the boat next to him split the hull and top cap due to the waves pounding over the stern and hit the bottom. Big Mac is a big lake by the standards we have here in the midwest and she is unforgiving so erring on the side of safety was probably a good idea. We see even a modest sized storm heading towards Big Mac and were yanking boats, that lake can get mean in a hurry!
