It's really simple if your boat is old enough to have the shoebox lid type deck. Here's a link http://tinypic.com/2se45 showing where the splashwell was cut from the deck while still on the hull. The transom is partially glassed in. This is the second time I've done it this way. They are easy to glass back and make the joint invisible.<br /><br />I tried to do more pics but only one came though. I have to study the site a little to post more.

BillP <br />thanks for the mail bill very much appreciated.<br />so you just left the outer fiberglass shell and laminated from inside then placed the splash well back in fiberglassed it from behind and fill it seal it. nice. do you think in the end you saved time on not taking the outer shell off the transom if thats what im seeing? <br />thanks again for the info and the pics.

Kel, never never never cut or remove any part of the outer shell unless it is damaged. That is a critical aspect of the structure. You want to leave the outer shell intact, and gain access from the inside, glassing your new transom wood to the outer shell, sheathing it in, and reinstalling the splashwell. Cutting the outer shell is just too great of a risk, and there is no way to ever regain the original strength. The hull shell is layed up as a single unit. By cutting the outer shell and then glassing back on you are taking the very real chance that under power in rough seas the whole transom could be ripped right off the boat. Just do as Bill says and you will be just fine.
