Re: Pics of the 75 SS.
Well we all seem to be getting restless for project updates and asking questions about people who have vanished so I thought I'd check in. Life has thrown me a few curves lately (elder-care duties) so boat time has been minimal. However, slow and steady progress on the boat in happening and reading everyone's stories keeps me sane. I've been rewiring, replacing switches, and making up a sub-panel for a marine radio I got from a buddy who upgraded. All the stuff that keeps a boat reliable. So - this is not a major rebuild but hey - it's a painting thread.
I've removed all the major hardware (but not all those canvas snaps - I couldn't face it since they are all new) and sanded down the entire exterior. That green is just not growing on me, but it looks like it's growing on SOMETHING!. I then filled all the extra holes by sanding the areas to bare metal, burring up the hole, and filling it with Marine JB Weld. The repairs sanded down nicely.
I then washed it all down with vinegar and water and put Interlux Primocon (zinc chromate) over the bare spots and repairs, and then sanded it down to flatten it again. Next was a thin coat of Interlux PreKote one part primer and then another fine sanding. That's where she sits now.
The Fraser Valley has just descended into a record cold spell for the coming week so I'll have to wait out the weather gods, but the next stage will be to coat the boat again with a 50/50 mix of PreKote and the Top coat and then a final sanding before the top coat goes on.
She'll be cream with a dark green top deck, both in Interlux Bright sides paint. I'll send more pics when that's complete but here's where she's at today. Hope the painting review is helpful to some one down the road.
