Has anyone seen a stringer layout like the one in this keel? The center is one 2x4 lying flat then about half way another 2x4 is butted against that standing up.

Also the center 2x4 stringers do not come all the way up to the bottom of the deck like the 1x6 stringers on the sides.

I think when I replace them I will put in plywood and bring it up to the deck for support in the middle.

Probably designed that way to accomodate a built in fuel tank.

What are you going to put under the wood so that you dont have hard spots where the wood meets the hull? Im getting to that point about myself. Im still batteling the itchy powder. Im a lot farther than my shareaproject page i guess i need to update it. But im curious what everyone uses to not rest the wood of the stringer on the fiberglass hull. Also how you bend the stringers like that. I can see if you use ply and layer it up.

Re: Pics of Weird Keel Stringers

There is a pre-fab product that you can use under the stringers to avoid a hard joint, but I dont remember the name. Oops responded to a thread not long ago and mentioned it. They use it on ship shape t.v. alot. Some guys are using penut butter or cabosil. Nothing was under mine originally, only a spot of resin occasionally to hold the stringers in place long enough to glass them in. My hull is a 1990 and other than rot had no problems with the hard joints and I fish in the gulf and have really punished her with some hard hits coming off of waves. I will probably use that poly adhesive that Tashasdaddy was buying from home depot to set my stringers in. I am going to use plywood for the stringers, I believe it is stronger than 1x6 lumber and will allow me to make those curves.
