I attached 2 pics of my boat. I took the motor off this morning and have cleaned up the cylicone where the boat motor bolts to the transom. ( I put it on in the begining when I first bought the boat and motor, SEPERATE. Not knowing, at the time anything about boats. OH SO HOW I HAVE LEARNED a few things)
Its an early 80's model Challenger. It is in almost perfect shape. But needs a transom. When I bought this boat it was just a hull and trailer. I installed, motor, bildge pump, gas tank, and battery, plus tilt and trim switch on the dash. This boat had nothing, not even whole for the tilt and trim switch or the whole for the bildge pump. It's been a project to say the least and now its time for the transom. I plan to use Seacast for the transom. I know I will have to remove the rub rail and the top half of the hull. But do not want to damage anything in the process. Once the motor came off I found out that the top half of the hull will have to come off and slide foward to access all of the transom. I am lucky that the transom does not go up into the side wells. It only goes to about an 1" or so above the kleets on the back. I wont know if I have any more damage until I get the top half off. I have a few questions.
1. Do I need to drill out the rivetts on the rub rail and with what kind of drill bit? ( I think a flat head screw driver would damage the aluminum part of the rub rail. So my thoughts are BAD idea on the flat head screw driver)
2. will I need to use screws back in place of the rivetts when putting the rub rail back on?
3. Where, what and how else, other than removing the rivetts, do I need to unscrew to get the top half off? windshields, front seats, lights, etc.??
