I recently picked up a boat knowing it needed a transom. I have done transoms before but this one is by far the worst I have encountered. The reason it failed was the many fasteners and through-hull fittings that were not sealed, along with the wood itself only being painted, not sealed in epoxy. This is on an aluminum boat. So for anybody wondering what transom rot looks like, take a look at the photo.
