I am growing to hate the previous owner of my boat. The only issues I have had are leftover carelessness from him
The latest issue came up today when after i found a friend with low gear lube i decided to check mine. As soon as i removed the dipstick I could see that the housing it screws back into is nearly completely stripped from being cross threaded at some point.
The good news is that my gear lube is fine and water free looks brand new (Colorless nearly) but when i screwed it back in it is fairly stripped and i am not comfortable with it that way and want to replace this housing.
Is it as easyas it loos (I see the dipstick itself and two other bolts and how can I locate the P/N for this. It is a 1999 VP SX drive. I am sure it is fine as is and has been this way for a while but i don't care to risk water getting into the upper unit
Also the lube level is about 2/3 up the part of the dipstick that has the flat edge before it turns into just a circular stem. I am assuming this is just about right, is that correct??
Please advise and as always thanks a lot = hopefully i am almost done fixing his screw ups
