Hi
I have a 1985 50h.p. evinrude boat motor. The thing runs great but last time I took it out the prop would not turn either direction. I took the lower unit off and found that the pinion gear was chewed up because the bearing that is right above it fell apart. I dont know how or why this happened. The other gears are fine it just tore up the pinion gear. My question is where can I buy just the pinion gear? The only boat shop around says I have to buy all 3 gears and it is $381.00 I hope someone may have a gear to sell me or can lead me in the right direction. By the way it is interesting to read some of the help that you guys give. Im glad to have found this web site. Thanks Den ( katden22@aol.com )

Re: Pinion Gear

Those gears are sold in sets. You can save a few bucks and get the set from Pro Marine. The good news is that Pro has good sets. There are some very low quality sets out there and you would be suprised who has them. Have your dealer call Pro at 800-621-7761. Talk to Kevin or Dan. Tell them I said hello!

Good luck!

Re: Pinion Gear

Thanks for the reply.
I was hoping someone would have a pinion gear that they could part with. Do you know what parts will interchange?
Thanks Den
